Urban Development in Ås, Norway
The master plan for the city of Ås in Norway proposes a space of cultural identity and social engagement in the plot assigned; a common arena where public gatherings, informal markets, regional festivities, and open concerts could take place. Its location close to the existing rail transportation accelerates the cultural exchanges between Ås and the Oslo metropolitan area.
The formal definition of the public square as a new area for pedestrians follows Rådhusplassen and ends in the Åsheim house, where the ground level is reconverted into a folk center for the community. In addition, a large variety of housing for students completes the existing block. The diversity of the apartments can accommodate the rich multiplicity of human relations and needs in contemporary societies.
